As we approach 2030, a renewed effort to localize the Global Sustainable Development Goals is critical for success. Partnerships are a driving force behind this ambitious agenda. Hence, increasing partner alignment and engagement will help to ensure we are delivering on our collective promise to “leave no-one behind”. To further the attainment of the Global Sustainable Development Goals, we will discuss the growing importance of ESG reporting and accountability in the private sector and how this global movement is impacted during unpredictable political climates.

ESG, Environmental, Social, & Corporate Governance, is an evaluation of a company’s collective conscientiousness for social, economic, and environmental factors.

Standardized reporting frameworks are used to generate a score that is compiled from data collected surrounding specific metrics on material topics related to intangible assets within the enterprise, such as corporate behavior and environmental impact.

Looking through the ESG lens, the SDG targets present a wide range of opportunities for the private sector to have a positive impact. This creation of a common agenda offers greater space for a multi-sectoral approach that is truly capable of tackling some of the global community’s biggest challenges. Given the current situation in Ukraine, the global business community has a critical role to play to uphold key ESG values such as the rule of law, good governance and human rights.

Titled “Catalyzing Private Sector Engagement | Moving the Needle on Sustainability”, this event intends to highlight the private sector initiatives that respond to the global call for action on meeting collective challenges. Outlining the important synergies connecting Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) frameworks, the panel opens with a brief overview on how both frameworks provide a common ground for the subsequent discussion with practitioners and experts.

This parallel event positions NGOs and CSOs as trusted and valued private sector partners in the attainment of ESG and SDG alignment and foster greater collaboration to “move the needle” on Sustainability.
