Our Education Programs

UNA-USA San Diego Chapter, established in 1946, focuses on advocacy efforts and education programs through public events and collaborations. It thrives to serve as a resource for the residents of the San Diego area on the broad agenda of critical global issues addressed by the United Nations and its agencies: Peacekeeping, Human Rights, Humanitarian Relief, Economic Development, and Education. [See under GET INVOLVED for our various committees addressing these key subjects.]

Interested in our Educational Programs? We are proudly offering extensive educational programs for all ages; please see below an overview of our current programs.

UNA-USA San Diego Mobile Classroom

Our Mobile Classroom comes to your classroom so that your students, grades 5 – 8, can learn about the origins, goals, structure, human rights, and humanitarian work of the United Nations.  The interactive presentation includes a brief background to the establishment of the United Nations, its goals and structure, Rights of the Child, a 10-minute UNICEF film, Like Me, and more.

Interested? Please contact Sasha Danilava at education@unasd.org for more information! Download our flyer here: Mobile classroom

Model United Nations

In Model UN, students step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN member states to debate current issues on the organization’s agenda. Students hold speeches, prepare draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the conference rules of procedure—all to mobilize “international cooperation” in finding answers to problems that affect countries worldwide.

UNA-USA San Diego does not host its own MUN conference yet continues to be an advisor to our many universities and schools by offering training, speakers, and resources to make the MUN experience memorable. We are currently however preparing an Adult MUN to provide young adults and professionals the unique opportunity to experience the simulation of the United Nations that had formerly not been able to take part in MUN programs. If you are interested in being a delegate for this Adult MUN – tentatively scheduled for April 2014 – please contact our office or send us an email.

Eleanor Roosevelt Global Classroom

We welcome small groups (20 max) of all ages to our classroom.  Just tell us what you want to know about the United Nations: – Overview of the UN?  Work of a UN Specialized Agency?  UN peacekeeping operations?  Importance of the UN to us?

Interested in this program? Contact Sasha Danilava at education@unasd.org for more information! Download our Flyer here: Global Classrom.

We Are The World

Our specialized, interactive workshops are designed for teens — All provide information about the origins, goals, structure and work of the United Nations.  Our Girl Scout To be Born a Girl  program also includes a look at the lives of girls around the world, and game time.  We offer a similar workshop for boys and for mixed groups.  All can be tailored to the special interests of your particular group.

Interested? Please contact Sasha Danilava at education@unasd.org for more information!

Classroom Without Borders

Ever wondered who or what is the United Nations? Perhaps you heard, read or even were exposed to the works of the United Nations (UN) however you never quite understood what does it do. Here is a perfect opportunity to bring the UN into your classroom. We have developed as a three-day workshop for middle and high school students specifically focused on the works of the UN on the subject of human rights, sustainable development, and peace. Centered on developing the capacities of students, Classroom Without Borders is relevant across educational disciplines as it can be infused into traditional academic subjects such as literature, math, science, history, language, social sciences, and the arts.
